POETRY IN MOTION
Where: Wed Nov, 23rd @ The Ottawa Jail Hostel Open Mic in Ottawa, Ont Thurs Nov, 24th @ The Privateer Nightclub in Montreal, Que.
When Brandon approached us with the idea to create a companion piece to “Poetry in Motion”, we were excited to add an extra layer of story to a piece that was already extremely strong. Using Brandon’s prose as a visual cue, we designed a treatment that would amplify not only the poem’s content, but also the manner in which it would be traditionally received and experienced by audiences. Our goal was to somehow break down the 4th wall and bring the audience into the poem, along for ride, and into Brandon’s subjective space. To create this vicarious experience we took the poem into the everyday, placing the GO PRO HELMET CAM on Brandon as he made his way though Montreal’s busy streets and subways towards his performance venue. Shot @ 60 frames per second, we were able to slow down and isolate Brandon’s motion and the societal gaze that has defined certain aspects of his experience with cerebral palsy.
